Junior Kindergarten

Lamphere Schools will offer Junior Kindergarten in our elementary schools and two new electives at Lamphere High School beginning with the 2019/2020 school year.

For our youngest learners

Junior Kindergarten will provide advantages and alternatives for our eligible Kindergarten age students.  “This program is designed for students who would benefit from a two year kindergarten experience,” said Jane Jurvis, Lamphere’s Director of Curriculum and Instruction.  “The curriculum is a play-based, learn-by-doing approach, involving more active learning than the traditional kindergarten program, allowing students the ‘gift of time’ to enhance their social, self-monitoring, fine motor and academic skills.” The program is a full day schedule and will follow the same school calendar as all other Lamphere schools, with the same start and end times as our elementary schedule: 8:30 am to 3:28 pm.

Students who meet the state’s entry eligibility standards with a birthday on or before September 1 are eligible. Students who have a birthday between September 1 and December 1 of the same school year may also enroll with a parent-signed waiver.

High School Courses

Brand new to Lamphere High School are two electives designed to prepare students for the future with real world skills.

Sports Writing, Broadcasting, Reporting & Social Media

Students will learn the basic aspects of live play-by-play broadcasting; color commentary; sports reporting, anchoring and producing for radio, TV and online communications. Emphasis will be on practical experience in producing sports programming

Introduction to Small, Unmanned Aircraft Systems (Drones)

In this course students will be introduced to small Unmanned Aircraft Systems and their uses and applications. Topics covered include flying multirotor and fixed wing drones, indoor flight training, diverse flight systems, maintenance, registration & certification requirements, safety, insurance, industry applications, emerging technologies, and the latest FAA policies.

“There is a lot of excitement among our students for these new courses and the opportunities they offer,” said Rodney Thomas, Lamphere High School Principal.  “Our new elective courses provide students with an opportunity to pursue an interest that could lead to a potential job. So this can be that real world experience that we want our students to have, and are a perfect compliment to our core academic curriculum. “

Middle School Update

The 2018/2019 school year brought new elective courses to Page Middle School giving students looking for a more challenging curriculum additional choices: • Advanced math • Advanced ELA • Art Studio • Coding • Anatomy

“Our students have excelled in the new courses this year,” said Liz Banks, Principal at Page Middle School.  “The challenging curriculum has peaked their interest and they’ve stepped up to accomplish more than they thought possible. It’s been wonderful to see the extra work paying off, not only in grades and classroom behavior but in self-confidence as well.”
