Alumni Watch - Eric Chung visits LHS

Lamphere Alum Eric Chung stopped in at Lamphere High School today to share some of his experiences with the Class of 2022.

Eric Chung adresses LHS Class of 2022“I’m proud to be from Lamphere, from Madison Heights and so very grateful for the support and opportunities I experienced here,” said Chung. “The things I learned, the people I met, the relationships with teachers and classmates all helped me get to where I am today.”

Chung, Lamphere High School Class of 2010, received his BA from Harvard and a law degree from Yale Law School. He is now an appellate/public policy lawyer and just finished a Special Counsel role with Senator Dick Durbin and the Senate Judiciary Committee to help with the confirmation process of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court.

“Wherever you want your life to lead, make a plan to get there,” Chung added. “It’s going to take hard work and you can do it. Talk to your teachers, counselors, talk to me. All of us are willing to help you make that plan and want to see you accomplish your goals.”

Eric CHung with Amy Newton and Jim Toma“Work hard, be open to opportunities to learn something new, and show up. If you do these three things you will make it and you will be successful and accomplish great things,” said LHS Principal Rodney Thomas. “Eric is a perfect example of this, he has one of the top pedigrees in terms of where you can go to school and it all started here - just like you.”

Student reaction was overwhelmingly positive, while impressed with Chung’s accomplishments, the fact that he started right here at Lamphere was eye opening.

“I never thought of myself as someone who could be involved in historical decisions made in the United States, today makes me believe that those dreams I have are actually doable.”

“It’s so cool that Eric came to LHS to talk to us, to share what he’s been doing since he graduated. I have a whole new outlook on my future.”

“I’m going to tell my little brother all about this, he’s going to be a freshman next year and if he can get started working hard in 9th grade, the way I want to work hard after today he will be so much better off by the time he graduates.”

Thank you Eric for coming home and inspiring our Lamphere family, we appreciate you and are so proud of you!
